My Experience with the Epiphora Method: Fixing Disrupted Brain Circulation

I think this is the last blog I'll write from Bali because we're flying back this coming Sunday.

To be honest, I’m looking forward to it because I’ve been feeling a bit overwhelmed here. There’s so much noise around the house—lots of construction, heavy traffic, and loud music everywhere. It just feels like I can't find any peace here.

And believe me, we tried.

We really went to different accommodations and even visited Lombok, the island next to Bali, which is supposed to be quieter. But we still couldn’t find the tranquility we were looking for.

New concussion recovery method: Epiphora Methode

Heading Back to the Netherlands

So, we decided to head back to the Netherlands. We don’t have a home there yet, so we’ll see where we end up. Maybe we’ll stay longer if we find something suitable, or perhaps we’ll head to southern Europe.

Everything is open, and we don’t know what will happen.

However, I’m really excited to see my family again, especially my two little nephews. One can finally walk and is so adorable at just one year and three months old. The other is four and has started school for the first time. I’ve missed all these milestones, and I can't wait to be with them again.

Next week, I’ll get to see them, and I’m just happy to return and explore a new potential home.

The Epiphora Method for post concussion syndrome

But today’s podcast is about something else: the Epiphora Method.

I started this method in May 2024, and to be honest, I was a bit skeptical at first.

You know how it goes—trying many things, and most don’t work. But I thought, “I have nothing to lose.” The method kept coming up in my Instagram inbox, frequently mentioned by others. So, on a day when I wasn’t feeling great, I decided to give it a try.

The Epiphora Method for concussion recovery

When I noticed a difference

I started the method with online sessions, which involve learning ten exercises. I noticed a difference in the first week—I felt my head was clearer and I was less tired. For instance, after conversations, I didn’t need as much time to recover as I used to.

Now, a short five-minute break with my eyes closed is enough, whereas before, it took much longer.

I’ve been using the Epiphora Method for about four months now, and I feel significantly better.

Hans Timmermans - The founder of the Epiphora Method

Yesterday, I had a session with Hans Timmermans, the psychotherapist, physiotherapist, and haptonomist who developed this method.

He integrated elements from various therapies into a simple, effective system with just ten exercises, most of which can be done lying down. It’s not a workout but rather gentle movements and breathing techniques focusing on the neck and overall posture.

During our session, Hans asked about 15 to 20 questions about my symptoms, rating them from 0 to 10. I was amazed to see that most of my symptoms, which used to be around a seven, had dropped to a one or even zero. It was a moment of realization that I’ve made significant progress.

How the Epiphora Method Works

Let me explain how the method works. If you’re not recovering from a concussion and feel stuck despite trying various treatments, the problem might be a disruption in blood flow to the brain.

This can lead to symptoms that don’t improve. The Epiphora Method assumes that such disruptions affect the brain’s blood supply, potentially caused by factors like concussion, whiplash, hypermobility, incorrect posture, or prolonged stress.

The method aims to restore proper blood circulation to the brain and eliminate waste products, balancing the survival and recovery systems. It’s helpful for people with post-concussion syndrome, post-COVID syndrome, migraines, sleep problems, or chronic pain.

Symptoms the Method Can Help With

Here are some symptoms that might indicate the method could help you:

  1. Sensitivity to light and/or sounds

  2. Blurred vision

  3. Headache and skull pain

  4. Brain fog

  5. Pressing feeling on the head

  6. Irritable bowels

  7. Feeling cold

  8. Sore muscles

If you experience any of these symptoms, the Epiphora Method might be worth trying. I noticed improvements in my ability to handle exercise and heat, and overall, I feel more balanced and calm.

Consistency is Key

You do the exercises twice a day—15 minutes in the morning and 10 minutes before bedtime. Maintaining good posture throughout the day is also crucial. The exercises are mostly done lying down and require consistency to see significant results. My progress has been remarkable, and Hans assured me that further improvement is expected.

I’ve created a page on my website about the Epiphora Method because I believe more people need to know about it. In the Netherlands, it’s already well-known and used by many with positive results. It’s starting to make its way internationally, and I want to be part of this movement. I’m considering getting certified to teach these methods and offer them to others.
