You want to get better so badly, but no one gives you answers. Your life is still on pause.

Post Concussion Syndrome

Here is what you've been told to do when trying to heal from your concussion/COVID:

Concussion

Don’t make this concussion the main thing in your life, don’t focus on it all the time.

Talk to a psychologist that will help. And don't stay at home all the time, that's not helpful for your mood.

❌ Go home and rest as much as possible. You will be better in a few weeks.

❌ “You need to focus on acceptance. Accept that this is your reality and learn to live with it.

We are all getting older, try not to make that a big deal.

❌ Do you have anxiety? Do some yoga and it's gone

❌ If only I had that much time off work, that would be amazing!

You're not alone.

Brain Injury recovery

"I was constantly torn between "I can't let this concussion ruin my life" and "I have to listen to my body and rest"

Watch this 2-minute video to see how I transformed from feeling completely "lost" to now helping others reduce their symptoms too.

Who

I suffered a concussion in 2017 and am now 90% recovered. Since then, I have helped more than 2,000 people with a concussion (and COVID, using the same two evidence-based methods) regain motivation in their recovery and reduce their symptoms.

Post Concussion Symptoms

I created the Boost Program and other courses, and for the past four years, I’ve been helping other concussion (and COVID) survivors in their recovery.

I am the host of my own podcast, The Concussion Community's podcast (over 150 episodes), where I share a lot of tips about recovery, treatments, my own struggles, emotions, and mindset.

I am Dutch, I love traveling, I live with my boyfriend, and I enjoy yoga and listening to podcasts.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long did it take for you to start feeling better?

In the first two years after my accident, I tried everything to get better. Yet I barely felt any progress (about 10%). I was very sad, and my life was completely on pause.

In 2019, I went to a concussion (and COVID) clinic in the U.S., where I learned about two scientifically validated methods that had already helped many people with a concussion and COVID. Because I want more people to have access to these methods, I created the Boost Program so you can start applying them from home.

You can find more information here.

What has actually helped you the most in your recovery?

Because I get this question so often, I’ve written a free ebook for everyone, where I mention the 6 things that helped me the most. You can download it for free: Click here.

How do you describe to others what a concussion feels like?

It can sometimes be impossible to describe what it feels like to deal with concussion symptoms. Still, I’ve tried to explain it in this 7-minute podcast: Click hereDo you recognize yourself in it?

Are you fully recovered now?

Right now, I feel I am about 90% recovered. The symptom I still have is that I feel overstimulated more quickly than before, and sometimes screen time still bothers me. I am hopeful that I will reach 100% recovery since I am still making progress. If you want to follow more about my life, follow me on Instagram, where I share tips, stories, and a glimpse into my life several times a week.

What is the link between a concussion and COVID?

A concussion is caused by a blow to the head or a whiplash injury. This temporarily disrupts brain function, often accompanied by an inflammatory response.

In long COVID, there is no physical impact, but the virus can also trigger inflammation, disrupt blood flow, overload the nervous system, and dysregulate the immune system. As a result, brain function can temporarily decline.

So, while the cause is different, both conditions often involve similar underlying mechanisms: a dysregulated nervous system, neuroinflammation, and disrupted communication within the brain.

These methods (in my Boost Program) are based on the treatment approach of Cognitive FX. They treat not only people with concussions, but also many individuals with long COVID (often using a slightly more gradual approach).

You can find more information on their website: https://www.cognitivefxusa.com/post-covid-19-treatment

The knowledge is partly based on the work of Mark Allen. By now, more than 2,000 people have started using these methods, and many report positive results.
